A EBSERH começou o ano mostrando integração ao mercado de plano de saúde. A Aliança Administradora de Benefícios de Saúde é parceira do Ministério da Educação e da EBSERH e será responsável pelos planos de saúde dos trabalhadores contratados pela EBSERH no Hospital de Clínicas da UFPR, embora tenha como presidente e um dos donos Elon Gomes de Almeida, investigado pela Polícia Federal por lavagem de dinheiro.
No dia 16 de dezembro de 2015 a Operação Acrônimo foi deflagrada para investigar suposto tráfico de influência e desvios de recursos que teriam sido destinados à campanha de Fernando Pimentel (PT) em 2014 – atual governador de Minas Gerais. Segundo reportagem publicada pelo jornal Gazeta do Povo a PF realizou busca e apreensão na casa do empresário Elon Gomes, pela suspeita de repasse dinheiro ilícito a Benedito Rodrigues de Oliveira, conhecido como Bené, muito próximo a Pimentel e um dos principais investigados na Acrônimo.
O repasse teria sido feito por meio da empresa Support Consultoria, da qual Elon também é proprietário. O valor da transação foi de R$750 mil, pagos por duas empresas de fachada. De acordo com a PF elas também foram usadas para venda de portarias no Ministério do Desenvolvimento (na época em que Pimentel era ministro) em favorecimento de montadoras de automóveis. A investigação envolve apenas Elon Gomes, entretanto ele não foi afastado da presidência do Grupo Aliança.
Elon Gomes também já se envolveu anteriormente em outro escândalo público por tentar corromper o presidente do PROCON-DF com o intuito de retirar o nome da Aliança e Qualicorp – do mesmo grupo desde 2012 – do ranking geral de reclamações. Segundo matéria do Correio Braziliense de março de 2014 a Qualicorp foi a empresa com o maior número de reclamações, devendo pagar multa de R$2 milhões.

No Portal Meu Congresso Nacional, que apura a origem dos financiamentos da campanha eleitoral de 2014, consta que Elon Gomes de Almeida doou R$700 mil para o PMDB e PP, partidos da base do governo Dilma.
